Few know the legend of The Bionic Rapper in the United States, but this lack of knowledge cannot deny the point that Joe Stern-McGovern aka The Bionic Rapper stands not only as Japan’s greatest foreign rapper, but its greatest rapper of all time, period!
The Bionic Rapper emerged on Japan’s white hot club scene in 1988 following his stint as producer and rapper under platinum artist, Sir-Mix-A-Lot of Warner Brother’s Rhyme Cartel. Upon the advice of his mentor, he purchased a ticket to the Land of the Rising Sun and history was made.
A Los Angeles native and native English speaker, Joe Stern-McGovern studied the complexities of Japanese to the point he became a master of the difficult tongue. Not only could he hold his own with the greatest of translators, Joe Stern-McGovern had the uncanny ability to bring rhyme to a country which had previously and literally no concept of rhyme whatsoever.
